What a Coogee move is actually like

The suburb drops from the Randwick ridge to the beach fast, so the streets between Arden Street and the top of the hill mean carrying downhill in one direction and uphill in the other, and the crew plans the load order around which. The deco blocks along Arcadia Street and its neighbours mostly have no lift; the newer buildings towards the beach end have lifts and strata rules. Parking is the third character in every job: resident permit zones cover most of the suburb, and the streets near Coogee Bay Road fill by mid-morning every day of the year that ends in a day.

None of that is a complaint. It is the reason a crew that works Coogee weekly finishes hours ahead of one that does not: the truck stands where it can actually stand, the stair gear is on the truck already, and nobody discovers the winder on level two with a sofa in their hands.

One street's worth of advice

If your building has no visitor parking and your street is permit-zoned, check whether your building manager or the neighbours can hold a space on the morning; ten metres of kerb is worth an hour of carrying. And if your lease ends on a summer weekend, book the crew early: half of Coogee's leases seem to end the same fortnight.
