House moves, from semi to family home
The houses here have character, which is another word for narrow. Federation semis around The Spot with hallway-width frontages, family homes through Maroubra where more than half the street is houses, and steep driveways wherever the land tips towards the beach.
How a house move runs
Houses carry more volume, more big pieces and more attachments to protect, so the crew steps up and so does the preparation. The lead hand walks the house against the inventory first. Doors come off where the furniture needs it, floors get runners, door frames get padding, and the load goes on the truck in reverse: the beds come off first at the new place, so the family sleeps even if the day runs long.
The semi problem, solved slowly then fast
A Federation semi's front path and hallway were drawn for 1910 furniture. A modern lounge suite gets through, but on angles that want two patient movers rather than four impatient ones, and sometimes it wants the bay window route instead. We have done enough of these streets to know which trick to reach for, and knowing is the difference between twenty careful minutes and a scraped hallway arch.
Driveways, verges and the neighbours
Where the land falls towards Coogee and Maroubra the driveways get steep, and a steep driveway changes how a truck loads: heavier pieces travel further by hand, or the truck stands on the street and the driveway becomes the carry. We plan that before the day, along with where the truck can legally stand and whether it blocks anyone's access. A two-minute note to your neighbours buys a lot of goodwill; we will tell you when it is worth writing.
What it costs
Two and three bedroom houses fit the three-mover crew at $350 an hour. Four bedrooms and up, or a house plus a garage's worth of extras, take four movers and two trucks at $500. If the honest answer is the smaller crew, that is the answer you get; the run sheet tool applies the same logic in the open.
